For the third time GF Automotive wins the Design-Award of the International Magnesium Association (IMA - ) in the category “casting-component design”. Award winner is the magnesium seat frame for the Mercedes SLK which is casted at GF Automotive in Altenmarkt, Austria.

The International Magnesium Association (IMA) with its headquarter in Wauconda, Illinois, USA, rewards the Lightweight-Award for the tenth time. GF Automotive was able to convince the jury with the design of its seat frame for the Mercedes SLK. The price was rewarded on Mai 25th 2015 during the annual international Magnesium Conference which took part in Munich.

The award winning product is a magnesium-casted seat frame for passenger cars. By casting in one piece the component is not only 30% lighter than its predecessor (steel welded construction) but it also convinces regarding its high degree of functional integration. The seat frame combines the head support, the airbag as well as diverse mechanisms like for example the seat heater. Nevertheless it is as light as a construction out of carbon.
