Months of preparation, testing and planning culminated for the students from ETH Zurich in the participation in the Hyperloop Competition II last weekend. 27 teams from all over the world were invited to present their pods in front of Elon Musk and SpaceX in Los Angeles, CA. But only three teams made it to the final race at the test track on Sunday, 27 August 2017.
A huge success for the Swissloop team from ETH Zurich, which belongs to the top three together with the teams of TU Munich (WARR Hyperloop) and the US team (Paradigm). The winner of the race was the team of TU Munich.
The days before the race, more than 100 tests needed to be completed to get the permission to test the pod on the Hyperloop test track. First of all, the pod had to meet all safety requirements, that the pod comes to a stop at the end of the 1.25km long tube for instance.
Although the Swissloop team didn’t win the competition due to a low battery, they did a great job being one of the three best teams. Especially the gas propulsion system got attention from the company SpaceX. Please follow the Swissloop facebook account to get more information.
The competitions taking place once a year are the driving force for the further development of the innovative transportation system initiated by Elon Musk. The Swissloop pod incorporates lightweight chassis components developed by GF Automotive.
Congratulations to the Swissloop team from ETH Zurich for the successful participation at the final competition of the three best teams. It’s a fantastic achievement!
